Also known as medium-wave ultraviolet or far ultraviolet. Its main function is to have erythema effect on the human body. It can promote mineral metabolism and the formation of vitamin D in the body. Utilizing the erythema reaction, UVB is widely used in medical treatment, such as the treatment of skin diseases. But the irradiation methods and applicable symptoms of ultraviolet therapy are generally used in hospitals , and consumers cannot use them by themselves.

It is also called short-wave ultraviolet or deep ultraviolet. Because of its shortest wavelength and the largest photon energy, it can most trigger photochemical reactions and destroy the nucleic acid and protein structure of microorganisms. At present, the most widely used application is sterilization and disinfection.
